The old church, made of unburnt bricks and a thatched roof, was in a poor state. It leaked during the rainy season and therefore many people stayed away from November to April  because they got wet and feared that the walls would collapse. There are over 100 church members, plus many children.  The parish church, St Matthews Chipoka, is 13kms away – too far to walk.

As with all MACS church projects, the congregation moulded and burnt the bricks and collected sand and stones.  They also worked hard to raise money to pay skilled local builders and carpenters.

Eileen visited in June and met the parish priest Fr Andrew Malenga and the building committee. He said, “We are so thankful to MACS for helping us to build a new and strong church which is being enjoyed by the whole community. Now people will be able worship every Sunday and our congregation will grow.”
