MACS, in partnership with the Against Malaria Foundation, have provided ‘blanket’ coverage of 24 villages to provide a total of 9,500 bed nets.

Village distribution

The responsibility for managing this massive exercise has been taken on entirely by local volunteers.     Distribution has been accomplished with bicycles since the organisation has no vehicle.

Bicyce distribution

One of the aims is to try and reduce the pool of malaria-carrying mosquitoes in the area by putting every person under a net at night,  one net for every 2 people.   The maximum danger of bites takes place between 11pm and 5am
  Mosquito
Volunteers spent time in each village to demonstrate how to use the net properly.     They took care to reach those unable to come to them at the distribution point because of age, illness or disability.

Finding the housebound

Elderly

Pregnant women  and children under 5 are particularly at risk.  Their resistance is low.

We are hoping that it may be possible to demonstrate a reduced incidence of the disease in this area over the coming months of the rainy season when mosquitoes are breeding.
