Some years ago, Dr. Bos who was working at St Martin’s Hospital, recommended the need for 10 houses for staff. She was able to procure funding from the Beit Trust for 3 which were built in 2008/9. Being a rural area and out-on-a-limb from any town or route,  there is always difficulty in recruiting and retaining staff there. The quality of staff housing is therefore very important. After many delays and difficulties, the 4 nurses houses at St Martin’s Hospital Malindi are completed and occupied. We are most grateful to the parish of Kingston Bagpuize who raised money for one of these houses.

First stage before contractor left the project

Unfortunately, the Contractors let us down and deserted the site before completion. We were obliged to go out to tender and find another builder to complete the 4 houses.  This added considerably to our costs as well as causing considerable delays throughout 2010.

We are happy now, however, to be able to report their successful completion  and occupancy

St Martin’s Hospital is in a rural area and looks after some of the poorest people in the country. We hope these new houses will go some way to redress the shortage.
