Chilema Ecumenical Training Centre at Malosa runs residential courses, workshops and conferences. Apart from a single guesthouse, their only available accommodation was in long student blocks with dubious plumbing systems! In 2008/09 MACS paid for six double guest chalets to be adapted from old staff houses. These proved a successful form of income generation. In October 2009 MACS awarded a further grant to reconstruct five former kitchens into single chalets. |

Director of Chilema, Revd Alex Maulana said: “Management and Board of Governors of Chilema Ecumenical Training and Conference Centre would like to register their gratitude for the financial support for the chalets project. We have seen the hand of God. We, therefore, appreciate that MACS has made our dream come true. The accommodation in the chalets fulfils the saying that cleanliness is next to godliness. At least with this type of accommodation we now feel we have accomplished our dream.

| Alex Maulana continued: “What a jump in our income! We wear smiles on our faces because we definitely know that there is life at Chilema. Just imagine from January (2009) to date, the (double and single)chalets alone were able to fetch us about Malawi Kwacha 4, 850,000.00 (£20,000). I would like to assure MACS that the donation was not a loss but a saving. Now with the steady income for Chilema ETC, there is assurance of the ecumenical institution and its programmes to be there for some years to come.“ | ||
