The Aids Trail
Celia Richardson reports on her three month tour through Malawi
in 2003, witnessing at first hand the devastating effect the AIDS pandemic
is having on Malawi
society.
She also found signs of hope: a greater awareness of the dangers of HIV/Aids
amongst young people, who are themselves initiating change and in the encouraging
work being done by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) who have introduced
free Anti Retro Viral drugs (ARVs) in two areas with great success.
Susan Cole King (1934 - 2001) in her own words
A report by this remarkable woman priest and former Chief Medical Officer of UNICEF offers an uncompromising analysis of the causes and consequences of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It provides a glimpse into her visionary and pioneering work with church leaders and the government in Malawi and suggests ways forward in tackling Africa's shadow of death. Return to Malindi
Roger and Karla Flambert revisit Malindi in 2002 to see how the Malindi Orphan
Care Group and permaculture gardens that they helped establish are progressing.
During their visit to villages in the area they find out how people are
coping with famine and discover how permaculture gardens are empowering
local communities.
